FAQ

Are the sheets strong?

The sheets are made from polycarbonate resin. Polycarbonate resin is inherently stronger than both glass and acrylic. Polycarbonate is 200 times stronger than glass. Polycarbonate is 30 times stronger than acrylic. It is about 15 times stronger than modified impact acrylic.

Does the sheet have dood thermal value?

To find out if the thermal values of the sheets are appropriate for the climate you live in you may choose between two main alternatives:

1. For hot climate areas it is recommended to have a low value of SHGC (or SC) and U-factor as mentioned in the local standards.

2. For cold climate areas it is usually recommended to have a low U-factor but has no requirement concerning solar heat gain.

The sheet provides excellent insulation properties, and currently meets thermal codes in 16mm and greater thicknesses.

What is the weight of sheet?

These durable sheets are very lightweigth and are easily installed by the user.

Do the sheets have a warranty?

Sheets have a 10 year non-prorated warranty against yellowing and breakage due to hail. Sheet also have a 10 year non - prorated warranty on anti-fog coating when applied. Most other manufacturers of multi - wall sheet provided a 10 year limited warranty. Their warranty is prorated years 6-10.

How are the sheets are bent (formed)?

Sheets are usually cold formed, and MUST be thermoformed if a radii less than the minimum radii for cold forming is desired. When cold forming the sheets, the sheets are always bent along the length (direction of flutes) and the length must be greater than sheet width. The minimum cold form radius are shown below, and can be calculated by the formula: Rmin = 175*[sheet thickness]

What is the purpose of the protective films?

Protective polyethylene film protects the sheets during transport and storage from dust and scratches. Protective polyethylene film on the top of the sheet (exterior side) has printing that indicates the side with UV protective coating – “This Side Out - UV Protected”. Protective polyethylene film on the bottom of the sheet (interior side) is a plain (colored) film. This side DOES NOT have UV protection

How do I clean the sheets?

Sheets – standard and specialized – will give longer and better service life with simple cleaning. Rinse sheet with water. Use warm soapy (mild liquid dish soap) water to clean sheets. If any dirt remains, gently wipe off with a soft cloth. Apply final rinse and dry with soft cloth, if possible, to prevent water spotting. DO NOT use sponges, squeegees, brushes or sharp instruments as they may damage the UV protective coating.

How do I store the sheets?

Store in dry, dark & well ventilated area, with NO EXPOSURE to sunlight, wind, dirt or hard objects to prevent damage. Store on a flat clean raised surface, and placed on a soft material (cardboard) to prevent damage. Supported, sloped stacking is recommended. If stacked flat, stack to a maximum height of 3 feet. Outdoors, sheets should be covered with an opaque material (cardboard, wood, EPDM sheet etc.) that provides protection from the sun. Outdoors, DO NOT store sheets under flexible PVC coverings. Outdoors, prolonged storage of sheets exposed to sun light will cause the protective polyethylene film to bake onto the sheet, and it WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE REMOVED.

Do I need special tools to cut & drill the sheets?

Polygal Sheets can be cut and drilled using standard wood working tools. Cutting – standard circular, jig, or table saw with a blade having 8-12 teeth per inch. Thinner gauges can be cut with a box knife. Drilling – standard wood drill bits. Trimming – standard box cutting knife.
